Sights and activities
* A visit to Nazaré, with its long sandy beach, boulevard, shops, restaurants, fisherwomen in traditional dresses, a big indoor ‘mercado’: a covered fresh market. Take the little tram upwards and you will end up in Sitio, a romantic village, with stunning view on Nazaré. Pay a visit to the fort of Nazaré from where you can spot the surfers on the big waves (known for ”The biggest waves on earth”. In 2008 the world record surfing has been broken on a wave of 24m high!)
* A dauphin safari is worth the effort. You can start in the Thalasso center of Nazaré, where you can do a lot of water sports.
* Foz do Arelho has a huge sandy beach and a beautiful lagoon
* The walled medieval charming town Óbidos is definitively worth the effort.
* Peniche, one on the most western points of Europe has a nice beach. From Peniche you can cross over to the Berlenga Islands...one of our favourite destinations!!
* And, of course Lisbon is a very nice city. Just park your car in the peripheral area. Very practical!
* Sintra and Mafra are situated in the neighbourhood of Lisbon and are both known for their beautiful palaces.
* The monasteries in Alcobaça and in Batalha are really impressive.
* Fatima is a famous place of pilgrimage and in Tomar you can visit the castle of the Templars and the monumental Convento de Cristo (monastery), one of the most important Portuguese buildings from the Renaissance.
* A visit to the Dino parque in Lourinhã is pretty fun for the little ones
* Nice cities in the neighbourhood are Caldas da Rainha, Leiria,…also to shop 😉
* You definitively have to visit the Buddha Eden Garden in Bombarral
* Coimbra (the university city) and Aveiro (the Venice of Portugal) are a little bit further away but they are worth a detour.
